  1. Some adjectives in some contexts don’t use “un-” so the short answer to your question is “no, it’s not always proper.”
    However, you can get away with anything if you put it in quotes (we call them “scare quotes”). For example, say you have a bicycle wheel with a dent in it. You wouldn’t say, “this wheel is unround.” You’d say the wheel has a dent in it or that it’s out of round. But you could grin and say, “Hmm. Looks kind of ‘unround,’ doesn’t it?” prefix
