DESCRIBE THE PROGRESS AND ACTIVITIES EXPECTED OF A LIBRARY ASSOCIATION TO ACHIEVE ITS OBJECTIVES.

 Special Libraries Association (SLA) is an international professional association for library and information professionals working in business, government, law, finance, non-profit, and academic organizations and institutions.

SLA activities include conferences, professional education, networking, and advocacy. The SLA Annual Conference & INFO-EXPO, usually held in the summer, includes education programs, networking events, and information exhibits. The SLA 2017 Annual Conference took place in Phoenix. The SLA 2018 Annual Conference was held June 9– 13, 2018, in Baltimore, Maryland. The SLA 2019 Annual Conference is scheduled to be held June 13– 18 in Cleveland, Ohio.

OBJECTIVES OF LIBRARY ASSOCIATION:-

1. To provide a forum for communication and cooperation between information professionals and institutional members, at local, national, regional and international level

2. Lobby with the government to formulate and enact policies that will promote access to information

3. Ensure that all levels of the society have access to information for individual growth and national development.

4. Provide information to support government priority initiatives in poverty eradication, education, HIV/AIDS, ICT, etc

5. Promote development and sustenance of a reading culture and the creation of a knowledge society, that would enhance socio-economic development

6. Liaise with key stakeholders in the development of a school library network

7. Promote professional competencies for improved socio-economic development of the nation

8. Encourage and support efforts in integration of information and communications technology (ICT) in libraries, and the national information infrastructure

9. Facilitate the development of professional competencies for a market economy
