(a) Hydro power

Ans – Hydropower, also known as hydroelectric power, is a renewable energy source that generates electricity by harnessing the energy of flowing water, typically from rivers or dams. It is one of the oldest and most widely used forms of renewable energy. The basic principle of hydropower involves using the kinetic energy of water to turn turbines connected to generators, which then produce electricity. Hydropower has several advantages, including its sustainability, low greenhouse gas emissions, and ability to provide reliable and consistent power. However, it also has environmental and social considerations, as dam construction can disrupt ecosystems and displace communities.

(b) Poverty line

Ans – The poverty line is a threshold or standard used to determine the minimum level of income or consumption required for individuals or households to meet their basic needs and maintain a decent standard of living. It serves as a tool for assessing the extent of poverty in a population. The specific poverty line can vary from one country to another and may be adjusted periodically to account for changes in the cost of living. People or households living below the poverty line are considered to be in poverty, while those above it are considered not to be in poverty. Poverty lines are often used by governments to formulate anti-poverty policies and programs.

(c) Ever green technology

Ans – Evergreen technology refers to technologies and practices that are sustainable and environmentally friendly, with a focus on long-term viability and minimal negative impacts on the environment. These technologies are designed to be resource-efficient, energy-efficient, and capable of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Evergreen technologies are often associated with renewable energy sources, energy-efficient building designs, waste reduction and recycling initiatives, and sustainable agricultural practices. The term emphasizes the idea that these technologies can be continually used and improved upon, promoting a greener and more sustainable future.

(d) Trade in services

Ans – Trade in services refers to the international exchange of services rather than physical goods. Services encompass a wide range of economic activities, including finance, telecommunications, tourism, education, healthcare, and professional consulting, among others. Unlike trade in goods, which involves the movement of tangible products across borders, trade in services involves the cross-border provision of intangible services. This form of trade has grown significantly with advancements in technology and globalization. International agreements and organizations, such as the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) under the World Trade Organization (WTO), govern and facilitate trade in services by establishing rules and principles for trade negotiations and liberalization.
