The residents of SBM Colony celebrated World Environment Day last Friend by planting saplings around the Colony with the nearby residents. Chief guest, corporator Champaka planted saplings and greeted the residents for arranging such a programme and expressed her happiness to be amongst them.
Varieties of plants like honge, silver oak, neem, Guimohar, Gasa Gasa, Rama Phala and Seethaphala were planted on the roadside and tree guards were also provided for protection from cattle. The tree planting programme was arranged by Vasant Vihar Colony Residents Cultural & Welfare Association.
Arun Kumar Shettar, president of the association, said that although some of the saplings planted so far have been destroyed due to nature failure or road widening, we continue to plant new trees as these Trees are mainly responsible for producing oxygen for. better environment-and-hence we will continue our efforts.
Ramnath K.V. secretary of the Association, promised more such programmes to be conducted to lant trees to prevent pollution of air and have fresh breathing and avoid situations as existing in Delhi. He also requested the residents to educate their children about the main idea behind the tree planting so that the large tree planting so that the large tree cutting for commercial purposes could be restricted.
Umakanth, the former vice president, thanked the corporator and other residents for participating in the initiative. He also presented a memorandum to the corporator requesting her to take up with MCC for early execution of the asphalting work of the road near Vivek Club which is pending for more than five years.
