High risk behavior

High-risk Behaviours: Often adolescents get involved in high risk behavior. The reason for this may be due to pressure like peer rejection, failure in academic achievement, loss of girl/boy friend etc. For these reasons, adolescents may involve in high risk behaviour. Another reason for high risk behaviour is that the adolescents are usually having the personal fables. Personal fable is a belief according to which the adolescents keep telling themselves that they are so unique and no matter what their behaviour is, no difficulty or problem can affect them. Therefore, they indulge in high risk behaviour. The late adolescents may get involved in sexual activities due to emotional disturbances. They may fall victim of drugs, smoking or alcohol. Due to peer pressure, many young adolescents indulge in social drinking which later converts into habit. Many adolescents admit that they get relief from stressors after the intake of alcohol. Some adolescents watch their elder family members taking alcohol, which may induce them to experiment it. Due to big amount of money given to adolescents, there are more chances that adolescents may get involved in drinking alcohol.

Many adolescents admit that unrealistic academic expectations on part of parents force them to avoid parents themselves. They develop a negative attitude towards parents and start hiding things. This communication gap increases and compel adolescents to involve in friendship for moral support. It is very unfortunate that sometimes they get friends whose character is notorious. They also become notorious in their company.

The negative socializing forces of drugs, youth gangs and the media have become more threatening. The positive socializing forces of family, school, religion, and neighbourhood have grown relatively weak and ineffective. Due to social exposure, adolescents involve in violent activities. In adolescence, the bonding between friends is very strong. They can do any violent act for their friends sake
