The increase in the concentration of CO2 and other greenhouse gases leads to an enhanced greenhouse effect. This is casing an increase in the global temperature which is known as global warming. Studies suggest that temperature has already increased by 0.3°C - 0.6°C since 1860 and the last two decades of the twentieth century were the warmest particularly the year 1998. From 1850 onwards, the decade 2000-2010 had been the warmest one particularly the two years 2005 and 2010 were the warmest years.
This global warming would change global
climate patterns and cause a rise in sea levels. It is estimated that the
sea-level may rise by 0.5 m to about 1m.
